I think a lot, if not all of the farming nations did something similar to that. I know from history lessons in school that farmers in the middle ages had 2 fields they worked and 1 they didn't and then kept swapping between them. Even farmers these days still do it even though they have fertilizers and basically can chemically analyze the dirt they're trudging through with high precision to see what exactly they can plant and what it will yield especially if they're doing monocultures.

sabbath & jubilee years
by the-illuminator81 ini was just wondering but could not remember any clear account in the bible that the jubilee years (50) or sabbath years (7) were really practiced by the israelites.
is this true?
i can't remember any account of lands being returned and slaves being freed etc.

State your "epiphany moment " for leaving the WT
by caliber ini have found some powerful reinforcements when people have stated their " epiphany moment "... please share some.. my turning pointing began when i was badly hurt by a person i had always viewed as a literal brother.
i realized that if his.
love was conditional.... if it was the case with him , then how about those i had less affection for and trust in ?.

I've had my doubts since I was young but my moment of 'oh shit I have to stop believing this shit' - don't mind my profanity is during the elder school and the new procedure on handling pregnant and sick people. There is a document that you can view over (but not have or copy) that basically says: you cannot allow your baby to have blood even if it kills them. This is a sacrifice for Jehovah that you will have to make. They made it clear in those words as well.

Btw, if you're wondering why your elders and ms's and their family's all participate - there's a lot of pressure from the top and unless you have a good excuse you can expect a talking to from your co or get a downgrade. I got fried a couple of times already on why I haven't filled out my slip.

Six Convincing Lines of Evidence that the WTS was RIGHT
by jgnat intrue believers meet at armageddon (december 30, 2000)
i find it oddly satisfying to read old reports of intelligent, scholarly, well-read men who confidently picked the time of the end.
and were obviously wrong.

I believe personally that if Jesus existed AND he said those things AND the book we know now as the Bible wasn't written and edited after the facts that:
a) Jesus started a new religion
b) The times of the end prophecies were destined for Jerusalem and do NOT have a reflection on our current era
c) Revelation was more of a mystical Christian book as opposed to the somewhat literal interpretation of the rest of the Bible. If the prophecies are true then the prophecies in Revelation either already happened and were fulfilled and we missed it or we're still waiting on it. Either way I don't believe that the OT God would preside over the events (destroy everything and leave no survivors)

pay back Caesar's things to Caesar
by man in black inyears ago when we were still witnesses, my wife was friends with a lady who wore the religion on her sleeve.. in fact, she divoriced her husband because he would not become a witness, it was a several year-long process but she finally succeeded in getting rid of him.. when she got her divorce, she decided to get certified as a nursing assistant, and she used us as a reference regarding her loan for school.. fast forward several years,,,,,, she gets remarried to an elder out in las vegas and continue to lives her ultra self rightous lifestyle as a jw.. but at least two times a year, the bank-loan officer calls us asking if we know where this "rightous" christian lady can be contacted.. she never paid one penny back for her education.
in fact, there is some kind of a warrant out for her, if she returns to illinois, she can be arrested.. so on one side, she is living out the jw fantasy in las vegas, but she can be thrown in prison for not paying her loan back if she comes back to her home state.. and she just loves to tell anyone what terrible people my wife and i are for walking away from the "truth".
send her a smartly worded reminder on facebook, or just leave it all alone ?.

If you know where she went (or the general area) I would let the collection agency and whoever has a warrant know. If you want to be nasty, send a letter to the local congo and their congo as well that you are being harassed for her debts and that the law requires them (if there is a warrant out) to turn her over if they know where she is.
Let the debtors know that you can't help them and give them the information of the OoBoE of their congo but they of course will claim pastorial privilege.

Do your elders care at all?
by Mr. Falcon ini currently have an elder body who, for the most part, seems utterly complacent and disinterested in actually "shepherding" anything.
i can't tell if they are lazy or just oblivious to their responsiblities of being "teachers".
it seems like they are the last to know anything and always procrastinate on everything.
-
Anony Mous
If you are in a 'good' congregation, the elders will not care. A 'bad' congregation has a bunch of elders and ms'es out of work who don't have anything better to do than be busybodies in everybody's life (what Paul said you shouldn't be doing) and they do 'care' but the ones that are actually genuine are far in between. My elders are 'good' and actually care but they are too busy with their own families, rbc and actual problems that they don't have the time to do anything else or they are lazy bums that rather have the other ones do all the work (pioneer + elder + elderly parents + family + full time job = impossible).

Together with our pioneers and regular aux. pioneers almost 70% will be participating. The pressure is high to participate but I'm holding on. I have a health excuse for a couple of months and our CO doesn't count the hours towards your average if you're (aux.) pioneering so I'm trying to avoid another talkin' to.

New Believers, Studying.
by cupcakekourtney88 inhey y'all!
my name is kourtney and i am new to this form and jehovah witnesses.
right now i am studying the book "what does the bible really teach".
-
Anony Mous
Hi Kourtney. Some of us are active witnesses here still, some are not. I'm one of the 'active' ones and pretty high up in the hierarchy but there is no way out for me without destroying my family. I advise you to be critical as to what people show you, how people treat you etc. Always ask: why are they doing so.
There are some things you really need to take a closer look at:
- Disfellowshipping/shunning - even if you're not a baptized witness yet but become well integrated into the congregation, if you ever want out people are going to treat you like dirt. If your family is included they will be encouraged to treat you the same way. This is documented doctrine.
- Blood doctrine - you will eventually be asked to take a stance on the blood doctrine. It doesn't fit medically, scientifically and even biblically be very careful what you believe especially if you have children. DO NOT ALLOW clerical visits if you get in the hospital and your view differs than the current doctrine, you may be shunned.
- Doctrine on doctrine. They claim to new people they follow the bible and Jesus. This is not true. They themselves have documented in their more advanced articles that their governing body and 'the faithful and discreet slave' are the only ones interpreting the Bible correctly and that the rest (you and the person you study with) should follow those interpretations even if they change frequently.
- Doctrine on apostacy. All deviance from official doctrine and critical speech is NOT allowed and they will claim those that are critical are 'from Satan' and 'not inspired by Holy Spirit'. If you ask right now, they will attempt to 'correct' you but if you go on you will later on be shunned if you criticize either the doctrine or the organization. This behavior is also documented in their official doctrine.
Again, they will deny a lot of what I just said initially and make an attempt at character assassination, excuses or just say you will see it 'right' later on in your studies.

The real story about the tea party movement
by lifeisgood ini started this thread because some people are telling lies in another thread about the tea party.. i am one of the volunteers that helps arrange and put on tea party rallies in southern mississippi.
we do not have a membership roll.. we are not a political party.. we have one basic issue that we are addressing, which is: we want federal spending to be lower than federal revenues.
we do not say how this is to be achieved.. some liars on this site are claiming that the tea parties are actively pushing to achieve the balanced budget by cutting only liberal policies.
-
Anony Mous
I wonder how republicans/tea partiers are going to fix the budget without cutting military spending. That's the major problem with the US, they have too much weapon manufacturers and big business to keep happy and republicans especially don't want to cut anything terr'rism or defense/offense related or anything business related. They'll cut a couple of millions here and there which affects the poor and the small business while spending trillions on war and letting themselves being bribed by big business. Stop the wars, cut your losses and go home, everybody will be happier. Then stop accepting bribes (donations and campaign funding in official terms) and let the whole mess work itself out. Cutting small programs and scientific research even cutting all NASA does is not the solution.

They don't even know their own doctrines...
by Leto ini had an interesting exchange on facebook with some random jw's on the april auxillary piosneering page.
seems they don't realize that the watchtower has set itself up as the mediator between the great crowd and jesus.
i post multiple watchtowers that outright say that "jesus is not mediator towards all mankind, but only 'spiritual israel', or the 144,000...".
-
Anony Mous
Can you please post the watchtowers where it says Jesus is not the mediator for all but only for the 144k. I would love to incorporate that into a talk but a bit more outspoken than the watchtower.
